Ko Te Tairāwhiti tēnei e ngunguru nei.
Aubrey Ria is a mother of four with a background in Māori media, primary education across both mainstream and Kura Kaupapa Māori, and environmental project management. She is passionate about being an active contributor to her whānau, hapū, iwi and the many marae of Te Tairāwhiti. She is also a proud performing member of Waihīrere Māori Club, where she has performed since 2001. Aubrey is a second-term Māori Ward Councillor and first-term Deputy Mayor for Te Kaunihera o Te Tairāwhiti. She is also serving her second term on Te Maruata Rōpū Whakahaere, the Māori caucus of Local Government New Zealand, and her first term as Co-Chair, through which she serves on the National Council of LGNZ. Across these roles, Aubrey believes strongly in the power of connection, trust and enduring relationships: “Relationships are infrastructure. When relationships are strong, so is everything that comes after.”
