Dame Fran Wilde is the Mayor of South Wairarapa. Her distinguished political career includes serving as a Minister in the Fourth Labour Government and as MP for Wellington Central from 1981 to 1992. She was elected as Wellington City’s first female mayor in 1992 and did not seek re-election in 1995. In 2004 Fran was elected to the Greater Wellington Regional Council, becoming Chair from 2007 to 2015. She has also served as Chair of the Remuneration Authority, Chair of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa Board, Chief Executive of Trade New Zealand, Chair of Housing New Zealand, Acting Chair of NZTA and many other public and private sector board appointments.
