Mayor David Moore

Mayor, Ōpōtiki District

LGNZ25 David Moore

David Moore is the current mayor of the Ōpōtiki District and served an additional term as a councillor between 2019-2022. He has been engaged and involved in the wider local government sector since he was elected in 2019.

David brings a deeply Ōpōtiki focus to his role as Mayor, with whakapapa, family-ties, education and working history all in and around the Ōpōtiki district.
His background mixes urban and rural businesses - beekeeping, real estate and work for the New Zealand Police fill a varied resume.
He admits that there is nowhere he would rather be than on council (unless he was fishing!). He feels lucky to build on generations of former elected representatives and staff, serving the community through the many challenges the local government sector faces. He has strong relationships with neighbouring mayors and councillors and appreciates the unique approach that local government takes to sharing the skills and knowledge of a team of councillors, council staff, key stakeholders and the wider community.

David lives in Ōpōtiki with his wife, children and mokopuna. He enjoys fishing trips off the abundant Ōpōtiki coastline, competing in the national Iron Māori each year, and spending as much time as possible with the grandkids.
