Tamah Alley is the current Mayor of Central Otago, having assumed office in October 2024. She has a background in law enforcement, serving as a police officer for 12 years in Auckland and Central Otago.
Prior to becoming mayor, Tamah was a councillor and chairwoman of the Vincent Community Board, and she chairs Zone 6. Her leadership focuses on addressing local government challenges, including rate increases and community services, and advocating for resilient and adaptable communities. She is committed to making democracy work for all residents of Central Otago and has a keen interest in collaboration and partnership to achieve more cost-effective solutions.
Her passion project is bringing communities on the journey of engagement with, and enthusiasm for, all things local government. An advocate for the health and wellness benefits that come with being active, she is a trustee on Southern Lakes Trails and the Southern Lakes Health Trust, as well at the school PTA. Tamah lives near Alexandra with her husband Matt and their kids. She enjoys biking, skiing, gardening, and Central Otago wine.
