Bayden Barber is a proud resident of Waimārama, Hawke’s Bay. His iwi affiliations are Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi and Ngāi Tahu.
With a wealth of governance and leadership experience, Bayden serves on multiple boards, including as Chair of Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc., Director of Te Ohu Kaimoana, Commissioner for Te Taurawhiri i Te Reo Māori, and Chair of The Māori Education Trust. He also contributed as a two-term councillor on the Hastings District Council from 2016 to 2022 and was the co-vice president for the Māori Party from 2014-2017.
In addition to formal governance roles, Bayden holds a number of voluntary community leadership positions in an effort to support community development.
